The Sri Lanka Railways Department has announced the resumption of train operations up to Nanu Oya Railway Station following significant restoration work on the railway line damaged by the recent “Dikwella” cyclone-related landslide and severe weather conditions.

Railway Line Restoration Update

The railway track between Agarapathana and Nanu Oya suffered extensive damage due to adverse weather conditions, including a major earth slip near the railway line. The affected section experienced severe land erosion and slope instability, creating major challenges for restoration teams.

Despite difficult weather conditions, limited access routes, and the need to transport construction materials and equipment by rail, Sri Lanka Railways, together with engineering teams and building research specialists, successfully completed the essential repair work required to make the track safe for train operations.

As a result, train services that were previously operating only up to Agarapathana will now be extended to Nanu Oya Railway Station from 20 June 2026.
