For peak periods such as December to March and July to August, we recommend enquiring 6 to 9 months ahead, since the best boutique hotels and safari camps fill early. Shorter notice is often possible, so please ask.
Sri Lanka has two monsoons, so there is always a good coast somewhere. The south and west coasts shine from December to April, the east coast from May to September, and the Cultural Triangle and hill country are rewarding for much of the year.
